Gahanna, OH

The city of Gahanna, OH, is a suburb of Columbus in northeast Franklin County. It covers 12.4 square miles of land around several small “islands” of Jefferson Township, home to a population of more than 35,000 people under the motto, “Live, Work, Play.”

Founded in 1849 along Big Walnut Creek, the community got its name from the Native American word for three creeks joining into one. Today the city’s official seal refers to this confluence with the inscription, “Three In One.” In the early years Gahanna held a rivalry with the adjacent village of Bridgeport, until the two eventually put aside their differences and merged. Gahanna has recently revitalized the downtown “Olde Gahanna” section of the city, developing public spaces, restaurants, residences and offices.
