Originally called the “Country Club District,” the area was renamed in connection with its southern neighbor of Arlington, then incorporated as a village in 1918. The Mallway business district was soon constructed in the 1920s, and Upper Arlington officially became a city in 1941. Many new housing tracts sprang up after World War II, and the city continued to grow north for years to come.
